In a secret lab in the desert is usually where horrible things begin and this story is no different. The S.H.I.E.L.D military base is run by Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and is looking into mysteries beyond the Earth. Namely, a cube of power named "The Tesseract", which you might remember powered the weapons in Captain America. This power could light up the world or destroy it a couple times over, which becomes a real issue when it is stolen by Thor's evil half-brother Loki (Tom Hiddelston). With the world now at war and an alien invasion looming there is only one choice, assemble the Avengers.
Nick Fury goes to find Captain America (Chris Evans), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) goes to find The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and Agent Colsen from previous movies goes to Tony Stark aka Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) for help. They form together to make a bickering team with ego and anger leading the way. Untrusting of each other and Nick Fury, as they yell and tear down everything around them.
That is until a pivotal moment when all of them realize the evil that they are facing and what is needed of them. The Avengers assemble to fight off any and all that would threaten the Earth and shout to the cosmos that this blue planet has protectors.
If you're excited about The Avengers, you should be. I've reviewed it twice in 3D and IMAX 3D and each audience went away smiling and talking about favorite scenes. This huge movie could only have been put together by a couple directors out there and Joss Whedon is on that list. To fanboys he is the guy who brought Firefly and Buffy the Vampire Slayer to the world. To everyone else, he will be the newest hottest director to the biggest summer blockbuster yet.
As for where your money should go with this release, whether just 3D or IMAX 3D… I myself had a great viewing of it in Real D 3D, the picture was great and I didn’t miss a thing. As for IMAX 3D, you will have to way out the grand scale of the screen to the fact that if you move your head at all or you are in a bad seat, you will get pulled out of the 3D sporadically. I’m sure there’s a science I don't understand and it could be that the eyes have a hard time with that much real estate. Whichever you choose though, I'd like to think the movie will grab you and not let go. This movie trumpets the blockbuster season with a huge horn and has the possibility of being a"Titanic" release for all action junkies, meaning multiple viewings. ...And yes, make sure to stay after the credits. Though you might have to ask a comic book fan a question or two!
